School visits

We did’st undertake visits to two schools in the year of Our Lord 2021, both as a prelude to the Bentley Benefit Fayre, Suffolk in August. Bentley Church of England Primary School and Copdock Community Primary School.

Seven of our members were present, Matthew ( Cunning Man), Diccon (Barber Surgeon), Lady Eleanor (Gentlewoman), Bess (Clay Charm Maker), Maykin (Teller of Tales), Nick (Armourer), Ned (Archer). All, of course, in costume.

All did display their assorted wares and discussed them with both the childer and their tutors. Matters of historie, clothing or the artefacts displayed were among the many topics. The visit was held outdoors with each member occupying a table or position apart, each from the other. The childer did visit each table in rotation and after a short introduction could ask any question they wished or handle the objects as they would, though this did depend in truth on both their age and the object. Sharps were restricted. By way of diversion, Maykin did tell a lively tale of this and that and Bess did make many a clay charm with the childer, which they retained as a momento of the day.
